Is it true that weight gain in pregnant women will affect the sex of the baby?
Is it true that the sex of the baby can be known from the mother’s weight gain? Launching the Contemporary Ob Gyn page, the less the mother’s weight gain during pregnancy, the less likely it is to conceive a baby boy.
Even so, the link between the mother’s weight during pregnancy and the sex of the baby has not been clearly proven.

However, Kristen J Navara, an endocrinologist in the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia, found that after sifting through more than 68 million births, it was found that the amount of weight gained during pregnancy was correlated with the proportion of births boy.
Launching the Times Of India page, there is a study published in PLOS One (a scientific journal published by the Public Library of Science) which analyzed data from nearly 70 million births for 25 years.
The study says that the increase in pregnancy weight is correlated with baby boys. When pregnant women gain 10 kilograms in weight, 49 percent will give birth to a baby boy.
If a pregnant woman gains 20 kilograms in weight, 52.5 percent will give birth to a baby boy and when she gains 30 kilograms, the percentage of giving birth to a son is around 54 percent.
“I hypothesize that the ratio of boys to girls born should vary with the amount of weight gained during pregnancy,” wrote Nevara.
Although it is not yet fully known why this happens, doctors who also analyzed the data explained that this relationship may be due to the fact that male fetuses have a higher metabolic rate and require more calories to develop successfully.
